The Antropology of YouTube

The way I used to view YouTube was either a way to look up how to do something i wanted to learn or to look up something that would entertain me for a little while before i go do what i really wanted to do with my day. I would have never thought that it is as important to people as breathing. After watching the antropology of YouTube i have completely 180'ed my first thoughts about YouTube. It is all the things i said it is but it also has a much deeper and richer use and meaning. Before geting into that topic though i want to talk about just a couple of the facts of YouTube and see if you can wrap your mind around them. on YouTube their are 9232 hours of video are uploaded in a single day which is the equivilant of 385 always on television channels and is 200000 3 minute videos which is not mass media, 88 percent of content coming through is new and original. The people on YouTube are able to express themselves in completely new and exciting ways and show it to anyone that cares to watch. Anyone can find anything on YouTube. Weather its songs, shows, songs about YouTube, "how to do" whatever you want to learn, or people just acting silly the possibilities are endless. aproximately 15 percent of videos on YouTube are remixes of previous videos. The song crank that solja boy started on you tube as a kid that made the song and dance and simply posted it on YouTube that blew up into what it is today. In conclusion YouTube is all of the things i spoke of in this blog but to countless numbers of people it is much much more than that. their are people on YouTube that dont make videos to be noticed but instead to coap with their every day lives. they can either simply vent to the "invisible audience" or make up persons that they find ammuseing to bring people together with themselves and that above anything else helpls them coap with life. they believe in the most simple of medicins is laughter

  1. David you really gave all the information needed and explained me the video better. The extra details were good, like the whole Solja Boy thing was great because that explains how youtube really affects someone, I bet that guy did not know he was going to be famous.Another good detail you explained was the amount of hours that people upload and how much those hours equivalent to watching tv.I agree with you when you said that all you did on youtube was look up how to's and other random things.Well those were the important things I saw in the blog and I think me and you kind of write the same way.
