reflecting on class experience

in class today the basic descussion was about our papers on an unfair assignment that we recieved on either multiple assigments or on a biger assigment like a test or project and we had to write to a friend or family member about how unfair it was and how we were going to try and fix it. we got together in groups of 3 or 4 and we all brainstormed about how we could write the best paper we could. we talked about who we would write to, some things we would say to the person we were writing to, and how we would ask to resolve our bad grade problem. i said to the group that i didnt want to write to a personal friend because everyone else would be doing that and i wanted my paper to be different than everyone elses so i decided to write to my uncle clouse who lives in germany. i told him what exactly happened with my bad grade and how unfair i thought it was and that i was going to go to my teacher in the near future to tell her what i thought and ask that she either change my grade or give me some extra credit assigments so i could raise my grade to a passing average. in the next class we had we had to get back into some groups with our first draft finished and come up with a question that we had on our paper and we had to solve that question to enhance our paper. my question was how can i make my paper longer. and in my group we disscussed many ways we could do that and then we would help the next person in my group in the same manner.

difference between blog 3 and email etiquette essay

In my blog number 3 I wrote about how I would write to one of my friends or familly members about one of my teachers giveing me a bad grade and what i would do about it to get my grade up to where i wanted it to be. my class had to write a logical, fluint and corect email to describe how unpleased we were with our grade in the class. i decided to write to my uncle clouse who lives in germany. i told him all about how my techer was completely unfair in the way she gave me the grades that i did not deserve. i talked about the amount and quality of the work that i did and how other people in class did work that was much simplier than mine and got a better grade than myself. i said told my uncle that i would go in the next day to talk to my teacher about the unfair grades and if she could take a second look at the work i did and if she agreed thati had done a better job than the grade percieved then maybe she would change it for me. if she didnt agree with me and felt that my paper was lacking and did indeed deserve the grade that she gave me then i would please request that she give me some extra credit assigments so i could bring my grade up to where i wanted it to be.
in the email etiquitte assignment we had to create a fictional and fluent email that effectively described our problem with the grades we recieved and ask if our teacher could raise our grades. our entire class had to set an appointment in the writing lab before we could turn in our final draft of this assignment. the main problem that i had with this assigment was i needed to find a way to make it much longer than what i had first written it out to be. my appointment to meet a tutor in the writing center was at 4 oclock. i went in and sat with my tutor and was pleasently suprised at how easily we made my short paper into a well rounded and writen assigment. he worked litteraly sentence by sentence with me to make the paper the best it could be. by the time me and my tutor were finished i had an entire page full of notes and things i should insert to my paper. i will be going back their in the future for sure

Reflecting On My Workshop Experience

The first time I heard that everyone in our class had to go to the writeing center and have our paper reviewed in order to even be turned in i honestly thought that that is silly and will be a waste of my time. And i didnt enjoy the fact that i had to go to my appointment for the writing center at 4:00 when my classes ended at 12:00 and i had to wait at school. In english class we took a trip to the writing center before so we knew where it was and how to use it exactly. we met all of the tutors and attendents in the writing center in class before we had to make an appointment. When Iwent in to the writeing center for my appointment I went in very tierd and in a normal yet frustrated manner because I had to be their at 4 o clock and waited till 12. In class the day before we had group discussions in groups and the goal of our disscussions was to find a question about our paper that would help us enhance it in any way. My question was "How do i make my paper longer" because i was haveing troubles doing it because it was supposed to be in the form of a email and im my mind emails are short and to the point so i didnt know how to make it 300 words long. When I sat down with my tutor we first disscussed exactly what i had to do and the format my paper so we didnt make any mistakes about writing it. After we disscussed the requirements for the paper we began to actually write the paper and i was very supprised and pleased with how much my tutor helped me in makeing my paper much longer than what it was and how he showed me how to make it flow into one entire well done paper. He took it litteraly sentence by sentence with me so i fully understood what i was writeing and how it helped the paragraph and paper. When we were done I had an entire paper full of notes and things i should incorporerate in my paper. When I left the writing center that day i left extremely happy because I recieved so much help on paper and learned so much helpfull information about how to correctly write a paper.

Internet Dating

Internet dating to me is looked and perceived in two ways. One way i look at internet dating is that it is an excellent and extremely helpful tool for people who are shy or want to ease themselves back into the dating scene for whatever reason they have that they were gone. The other way i look at internet dating is it is sometimes scary, unreliable, and even creepy way to find someone that you want to essentially spend time with and even create a future with. I personally would much rather go out somewhere or just go to places I go anyway like convenience store or library or school and approach a girl and talk to her and ask for her number and get to know her that way instead of trusting in an internet ad and wondering if it is even true that this person is actually a women! But i understand that their are plenty of people that find just approaching a member of the opposite sex for no reason and carrying on a normal conversation with them in hopes to "get her number" and talk to her more is just simply beyond them and couldn't even imagine it. The reason i would rather do this is because at least this way i know that at least this person is visually who they say they are and in spending time and talking with that person i can tell if they are someone i would want to bring into my life. One thing that some people do not like about dating services is allot of people think that they are racist against gays. One website that gets the better part of the bashing on the subject of gay discrimination is e-harmony. A couple reasons people say that e-harmony is excluding gays is because the founder Neil Clark Warren is a conservative  christian who is "a man who apparently thinks gays are some kind of a different species." e-harmony is not the only website that seems like it excludes gays from their website but they are the leading website in finding a partner so they are going to get most of the blow back from this. Their are allot of cool things about internet dating that have recently been added though. The one that i found the most interesting is that their is a website where two persons can create avatars for themselves and go out on a virtual date together on a couple of different scenarios. For instance one scenario would be a walk in the park or going to see a movie together and you can go on this date from the comfort of your own home eliminating the worry of an akword conversation or saying the wrong thing because you were nervous. And you can even ask for a kiss at the end of your virtual date.

2 topic discussions

Today in class we discussed several different topics but two topics that really caught my attention were the ones on how "technology helps students adopt good study habits", and the article on "reading, writing, and iphoning". In the article "technology helps students adopt good study habits" the author talks about a system on the computer that each student gets as soon as they log into their school account. what this program does is when a student logs into his or her account something similar to a traffic light system appears where the colors green, yellow, and red symbolize the students grade status in a class. Green would symbolize that the student is doing well in the class and the program has personal messages from their teachers encouraging them to keep up the good work. a yellow light means the student is probably in the grade average of a high or low C and needs t0 tread carefully so he or she doesn't slip into failing, and a red light ofcourse indicates that the student is failing the class and needs to bring up the grade and it has personal messages from the teacher saying exactly how the student could do this.
In the article "reading writing and iphoning" it talks about the advantages of haveing something that can ne described as an internet in your pocket device. it van be used to look up imporant information for any of your classes at any time. but students can also use their internet picket devices to look up things that they shouldny be on in class and could be a major distraction for the students. when students started goint to abilene christian university they were given tshirts, orientation packets, and either an iphone or ipod touch. in my opinion giveing out iphones and ipod touches is only a scheme to draw students to their school. i think all of the things the school could say to justify themselves like how they could look up important things in class could be done the same or even better with a standard computer that the school supplies or the students would buy themselves.

Todays Lesson

Todays discussion on exactly what and how we are going to be studying and writing about really opened my eyes to the level of work we are going to be doing in class and in college life. in high school and in middle school you had enough home work and studies to keep you busy but in college it is all done by yourself, everything is based on you paying attention and doing your work on time. if you dont it is your fault and no one else's and i love that. in our english class we started at 100 words for a blog and gradually progressed, and now we are at 300 words. to me 300 words is a challenge because i have trouble finding out exactly how i want to write a paper, but it is a challenge i am ready to take head on to better my writing skills. Our next assignment is we have to read up on 2 given topics and compare the 2 and talk about what they both meant and what they meant to us individually. The overall discussion that we had the other day was a good one that really helped me look into the future of what we will be doing in our english class.

bad grade complaint

Dear Uncle Clouse

Hey uncle. Haven’t gotten the chance to talk with you that much lately. I’ve been real busy of late. I have been working as much as I can, playing in pool tournaments too. I got fifth place in one of them. Also I have been trying to make as much time as I can to spend time with my girlfriend. And on top of all this I have school to juggle around in their too. But the crapiest thing happened the other day. In school I have a math class and my teacher is not very understanding about my time constraints at all. He knows that I have all of these things to juggle around with my schedule but yet he doesn’t care an will give me an F if I even think about turning in something a day late. The other day I had work at the pool hall where I work and I don’t get out until 3:30 in the morning and had to have my home work finished and on his table at 8:00 when class starts an I couldn’t finish it when I arrived home because I was too exhausted to concentrate and do my work. I even fell asleep attempting to do it. So I came in the next day with it half completed and told him my situation and asked if he could possible give me till the end of the day to complete it and turn it in to him but of course he refused, gave me a failing grade on the assignment, and on top of it all I have to go back in to work today…

Davids writing proccess

My writing process is very simple. procrastinate, brainstorm, handwrite, and then type it out and print it or whatever I have to do to turn in my paper. I will do anything to procrastinate. I had to clean my room or take a shower or give my dog a bath. any excuse I can find to procrastinate I will find it. I will procrastinate to the last minute but I will always give myself the time I need to get what I need to finished. when I do actually sit down and start to write my paper the first thing I do is brainstorm. the way I like I like to do this is I will draw a bubble chart with my topic in the middle and branch out ideas from their. as an example the last topic I wrote about was how I will use technology in everyday life. and when I formed my bubble chart first I wrote the topic in the middle and then thought about all the ways I use technology in my life and then wrote how exactly I use those things in my life. after Im done brainstorming my ideas into a bubble chart I start to handwrite my paper first so I can get it all down without any mistakes. and finally when I am done with hand writing my paper I finish the process by typing and turning in my paper.
