summarization of facebook and myspace articles

The four articles that we went over today in class are "Colleges scan facebook during admissions", "Jury out on Facebook's Impact on Grades", Facebook Sparks Suspicion", "Does Facebook Replace Face Time or Enhance it." The over all message of all these articles is that being on Facebook is going to make your grades decline steadily or quickly, but it is not good to be on it for a great deal of time. All of these articles are jam packed with different statistics and quotes. Some of the statistics from the article "Jury out on Facebook's impact on grades" are "Higher-education officials and social networking experts said long term research--a study that lasts several years--would be needed before academics could determine more definitively whether using Facebook and other sites has an effect on student grades." In my personal life I see alot of students who use facebook and myspace alot in their days, almost any time they have a free minute or class they are on their myspace or facebook. I see this in my college life and would see it even more when I was in highschool. My fellow class mates would be on Myspace or Facebook for hours on end useing up their time they shoud have and could have been spending doing finishing their three day late hw. On the flip side of all this bashing on how social networking systems takes up too much time in the normal persons life; these different social networking sites play a very important role in keeping in touch with family members, close friends, and other loved ones that do not live in your area. In my opinion these social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace do play big roles in spending time on them instead of spending time on things you should be doing. But all of these articles are spending all of their time bashing on these sites when in reality it isnt just these sites that are the problem, it is any activity that a person can spend an anordite amount of time on. This could be any sport, video game, or hobby that a person can have. So these networking sites are not the main problem of peoples inordinate time wasting, it is in fact the people not knowing how to use their time properly that is the problem.
